finished 5/14:  18x24 watercolors
when i was pregnant with maxwell, a sister in our ward contracted cancer.  after going through treatments, surgeries, etc., she then got a really bad infection that required daily antibiotics (administered three time a day) through a picc line.  there were amazingly two sisters in the ward (me being one of them) who knew how to hook up picc lines and were comfortable administering iv antibiotics.  it took about an hour, give or take, for the antibiotics to run through, so i had 2-3 hours a day with this sister, which then got whittled down to just one hour, after i got more pregnant-er, and the other sister got involved, and then a home health nurse.  we had lots of time to talk.  lots of time to get to know each other.  lots of time to share life stories and dreams.
here we are, two years later, and i wanted to do a painting for my friend.  she wanted a woman with Christ scene, and we could both testify of a very visible Hand keeping her afloat in life.  this scene popped into my head as we were talking.  honestly, it isn't quite as refined as i had hoped it'd be, but it'll do.

as an expectant mama nothing is better than welcoming your new baby into your arms.  especially a much-wanted and long-awaited baby!  i wanted to help christian and robin welcome their little guy with a special painting for the nursery.  robin said she wanted the phrase "you are like a star shining brightly" from the primary song.  i thought for a good 3-4 months about what exactly to paint, how to incorporate that phrase, etc.  and then i woke up one morning, knowing exactly what i wanted to do, and seeing the finished painting in my head.
